Raw Watermelon Tourmaline on Matrix from Brazil - One of a Kind, 4 In

Watermelon tourmaline earns its name with a pink center and a green rim, grown that way by nature.

In this specimen from Brazil, rough tourmaline rods sit in a crystal matrix, and the photos show pink, green and gold tones in the crystals. Because it is left raw on its matrix, you see the tourmaline the way it grew rather than cut down into a gem. It is a hand sized piece that suits a collector's cabinet, a desk or a shelf near a window. Tourmaline is an October birthstone, so this is a good choice for an October birthday or an eighth anniversary.

About Watermelon Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a group of boron silicate minerals, and watermelon tourmaline is tourmaline crystal with a pink core and a green rim. Manganese produces the pinks and reds, while iron, and possibly titanium, produces the greens. Tourmaline is a hard gem mineral, and pink tourmaline often shows more visible inclusions than green.

Stone Meaning: Watermelon tourmaline is traditionally associated with joy and balance.
