Watermelon tourmaline gets its name from a pink heart wrapped in green, and this big rough piece carries both colors through the stone.

It is raw and unpolished, about the size of a cantaloupe, with pink and green tourmaline and glittering gold flakes catching the light across the surface. Displayed whole, it makes a bold natural piece for a shelf, office or meditation space. Crafters can also split off smaller fragments for their own projects, since the stone comes apart readily. It is a strong October birthday gift for a mineral lover who prefers raw material to polished shapes.

About Watermelon Tourmaline

Watermelon tourmaline is a color zoned elbaite, the lithium bearing species of tourmaline, with a pink to red center and a green outer zone. It forms in granite pegmatites alongside lepidolite and spodumene. Manganese produces the pink and iron the green.

Stone Meaning: Watermelon tourmaline is traditionally associated with joy and balance.
