Azurite was ground into blue pigment in ancient Egypt and medieval Europe, and this raw piece shows the color painters were after.
This piece carries tiny bright blue azurite crystals, with small green malachite formations mixed in, so you get two copper minerals in one specimen. Left raw, the crystals keep their sparkle and texture. It is a strong pick for a mineral collector, a geology fan or an artist who works with blue, and it reads well in a cabinet or under a lamp.
About Azurite and Malachite
Azurite is a deep blue copper carbonate mineral, named from the ancient Persian word lazhward for its color. It forms with malachite, a green copper carbonate, in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, and over time azurite slowly alters to malachite. Both are soft, about 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.
Stone Meaning: Azurite is traditionally associated with insight and clarity.
