Tight bunches of tiny rounded spheres that resemble a cluster of grapes give grape agate its name.

This elongated specimen spreads those bubbles along its length, so you can turn it in your hand and find new clusters on every side. Grape agate is usually purple but can show blue, white, green or gray grains, which gives each specimen its own character. It is an easy pick for a mineral cabinet, a desk or the shelf of someone who loves purple stones but already owns plenty of amethyst.

About Grape Agate

Grape agate is botryoidal chalcedony, microcrystalline quartz that grows in rounded clusters; botryoidal comes from the Greek botrys, a bunch of grapes. Despite the trade name it is not true agate, because it lacks agate banding, and its purple color comes from trace iron. It is mined in the Batu Manakarra district of Sulawesi, Indonesia, a relatively recent find.

Stone Meaning: Grape agate is traditionally associated with calm and confidence.
