Amethyst Polished Slab with Basalt Edge - One of a Kind, 10 In

Is it a slab or a sculpture? This amethyst piece sits somewhere between the two, polished on its faces and left raw around the perimeter.

Close up, the polished surface shows amethyst crystal formations in cross section, while the side view reveals a band of green basalt along the edges, the volcanic rock the amethyst grew in. That contrast between smooth and natural is what makes it work as display art on a bookcase, a sideboard or an office credenza. It looks best standing upright on a plate stand.

About Amethyst Slabs

Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. In Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and nearby Artigas, Uruguay, it grows inside large geodes in volcanic basalt, which is why many slabs keep a rim of the host rock. Cutting and polishing a section exposes the crystal formations inside.

Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
