About Rhyolite

Rhyolite is the volcanic counterpart of granite and the most silica rich volcanic rock, built mainly of quartz and alkali feldspar. The name was coined in 1860 from the Greek rhyax, a stream of lava. As it cools, rhyolite can develop flow layering and small round spherulites, textures that turn into pattern once the stone is cut and polished.
