About Agate Slices

Agate is a translucent, banded form of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands form as silica is deposited layer by layer inside a rock cavity by groundwater of changing composition. Larger agates are cut into slices with circular diamond saws, which is why consecutive slices from one stone show the same pattern shifting gradually.
