About Selenite

Selenite is a crystalline variety of gypsum, hydrous calcium sulfate. Its translucent structure lets light pass through the stone, which is what gives the lamp its soft, even glow. It is very soft, 2 on the Mohs scale, and slowly dissolves in water.
