Tall Amethyst Cave Geode - One of a Kind, Cut Base and Face, 25 In

Just over two feet of purple crystal, standing on its own: this amethyst cave geode is the first thing people will notice when they walk into the room.

The base and the front were cut flat, so it stands upright without a holder and the crystal opening faces you squarely. It is tall and narrow rather than wide, which makes it easier to place than you might expect: beside a fireplace, at the end of an entry console, or in a corner where a tall plant would usually go. Amethyst is the February birthstone, and a cave this size suits a milestone birthday, a new home or a retirement. Expect serious weight; this is a piece you place once and leave.

About Amethyst Cave Geodes

An amethyst cave is a large geode that has been cut open and set upright. These cavities begin as gas bubbles in basaltic lava; mineral rich fluids later seep in and grow quartz crystals on the walls, purple where trace iron and natural radiation have colored them. The largest amethyst geodes come from the Parana basalts of southern Brazil and neighboring Artigas, Uruguay, two of the world's biggest amethyst producing regions.

Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.

Good to Know

• A small battery LED set just inside the opening lights the crystal walls from within and shows depth that room light misses.
• Because the crystals grew inward from the cavity walls, their points face the center of the opening.
