One copper nugget, one swirling wire bail, and nothing else competing with the metal.

The nugget was recovered from the poor rock piles of Michigan's Copper Country, where old mines left scraps of copper locked in stone, then tumbled until the rock fell away and the natural shape came through. That is why the outline is lumpy and organic instead of stamped. It is slim enough to wear every day and still has the warm reddish color of real copper. Hang it on a leather cord for a rugged look or a fine chain for something cleaner. It is a thoughtful gift for someone with roots in Upper Michigan.

About Michigan Native Copper

Most copper ore around the world is an oxide or sulfide, but copper from Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula occurs mostly as native copper, which is nearly pure metal. Native Americans worked it into tools thousands of years ago, commercial mining began in 1844, and the region led the United States in copper output from 1845 to 1887 before the last big mines closed in 1968.

Stone Meaning: Copper is traditionally associated with balance and vitality.
