About Agate Geodes

A geode starts as a hollow cavity in rock that slowly fills with mineral layers as groundwater seeps through. In agate geodes the outer layers are banded chalcedony and the center is often lined with druzy, a coating of fine crystals. Many commercial geodes come from Brazil, Uruguay, Namibia and Mexico.
