Crisp, glassy geometry is the draw with apophyllite, and this specimen packs it into a compact piece. It measures about 4.5 inches on its longest side.

Here the crystals sit on their natural matrix, with the pointed, pyramid shaped terminations apophyllite is known for. Apophyllite is usually colorless or white, and it grows in the same volcanic cavities as zeolite minerals such as stilbite, which is why the two are so often sold together. At about 325 grams it is light enough for a shelf, a desk or a mineral cabinet, and it fits easily in a display case beside other cluster specimens. Give it to a mineral collector, a geology fan, or yourself if you have been meaning to add a zeolite to your collection. A small light aimed from the side makes the crystal faces flash as you walk past. The apophyllite in the photos is the one you will receive.

It measures about 4.5 by 1.5 by 4 inches and weighs about 325 grams. A ruler photo shows the size.

About Apophyllite and Zeolites

Zeolites are a group of more than 40 hydrated aluminum silicate minerals that most often grow in open cavities in basalt; stilbite is one of them. Apophyllite is a closely associated phyllosilicate with glassy to pearly crystals, about 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale. The Deccan Traps basalts of India are a prolific source of both, with pale green apophyllite and salmon pink stilbite found together near Mumbai and Pune.

Stone Meaning: Apophyllite is traditionally associated with spiritual growth and inner peace.
