Rough Elestial Alligator Smoky Quartz, Gold and Black Rutile, 5 In

Run a finger across the faces and you can feel the ridges that give alligator quartz its name.

This rough elestial smoky quartz has those layered, skeletal faces along with gold and black rutile, and the contrast between the bright needles and the brown quartz is clear in the photos. It is about 5 inches long, 2 inches wide and 3 inches deep, a narrow, elongated shape that fits a bookshelf or a desk corner. As a rough stone it has not been cut or polished, so every edge and texture is natural. Give it to someone who prefers raw minerals over shaped pieces, or keep it as the centerpiece of a smoky quartz display. Rutile is titanium dioxide, and the black needles owe their darker color to niobium and tantalum in the rutile. The quartz in the photos is the one you will receive.

Approximate size is 5 by 2 by 3 inches. A ruler photo is included.

About Elestial Quartz and Black Rutile

Elestial is a market name for skeletal quartz, which grows in unusually saturated conditions when crystal edges grow faster than the faces, leaving recessed, layered faces. Rutile is titanium dioxide that commonly forms needle like crystals, and groups of these needles are often found penetrating quartz. Rutile is usually golden to reddish brown, and it turns black when rich in niobium and tantalum.

Stone Meaning: Rutilated smoky quartz is traditionally associated with clarity and grounding.
