Elestial Alligator Smoky Quartz Crystal with Gold and Black Rutile #3

For the collector who wants a crystal with a story, here is an elestial smoky quartz with gold and black rutile, hand selected on a buying trip to North Brazil.

The terraced, ridged surface that gives alligator quartz its name covers this crystal, and black rutile runs both inside and across the outside of the stone, while gold rutile and other inclusions shimmer when you turn it under a light. The fibrous texture and smoky brown tone give it a rugged, natural look that sits well in a mineral cabinet, on a desk or beside wood and leather decor. The layered elestial growth and the two colors of rutile together are what make it a collector's specimen. It is a strong gift for a smoky quartz or rutilated quartz collector. This is the exact crystal shown.

The crystal is about 3.875 by 3 by 2.5 inches. Look at the close up photo for the rutile detail.

About Elestial Smoky Quartz with Rutile

Elestial is a market name for skeletal quartz, which forms when crystal edges grow faster than the faces, leaving layered, terraced faces sometimes called alligator skin. Smoky quartz gets its brown color from natural radiation acting on trace aluminum, and rutile adds fine needle like inclusions.

Stone Meaning: Smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding and calm.
