About the Three Crystals

Clear quartz and amethyst are both quartz, rated 7 on the Mohs scale; amethyst gets its purple color from trace iron and natural irradiation. Black tourmaline, or schorl, is the most common member of the tourmaline group, a family of boron silicate minerals, and usually grows as long, striated crystals.
