Gray labradorite chips with flashes of color are tumbled smooth and sold by the half pound. Each chip measures about 10 to 17 millimeters by 6 to 12 millimeters, in assorted shapes.

Use them in resin and inlay, wire wrapping, mosaics and crafts, fill a small jar or dish, or tuck a few into gift bags. Turn a chip under a light to see the flash shift as the angle changes.

Labradorite is rated 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, so it holds up well to handling. Not every chip shows strong flash, and shapes vary by bag; the quarter photo shows the size. Rinse the chips with water and let them air dry before using them in crafts or resin. Keep small stones away from young children and pets.

About Labradorite

Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar named after Labrador, Canada, where it was described in 1770. Its flashes of color, called labradorescence, come from light reflecting off internal twinning surfaces.

Stone Meaning: Labradorite is traditionally associated with transformation and protection.
