Hypersthene Tumbled Chips - 1/2 lb Bag

Very dark hypersthene chips with a pearly sheen are tumbled smooth and sold by the half pound. Each chip measures about 12 to 17 millimeters by 8 to 12 millimeters.

Use them in resin, mosaics, wire wrapping and crafts, keep a few in a pocket or dish, or add an unusual stone to a mineral collection. The sheen shows best when you tilt a chip under a lamp.

Hypersthene is rated 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, so store it apart from harder stones such as quartz. Shapes and sheen vary by bag; the quarter and hand photos show the size. Rinse the chips with water and let them air dry before using them in crafts or resin. Keep small stones away from young children and pets.

About Hypersthene

Hypersthene is a pyroxene mineral made of magnesium and iron silicate, sitting between enstatite and ferrosilite. Mineralogists now usually call it ferroan enstatite. Some surfaces show a coppery metallic sheen called schiller, and its name means over strength in Greek.
