Purple and golden tones meet in this ametrine bead, a quartz that shows the colors of amethyst and citrine in a single stone. It is drilled side to side across the top, so it hangs neatly as a pendant or focal bead, and measures about 23 to 38 millimeters by 18 to 25 millimeters.

Slide it onto a chain or leather cord, add a jump ring and bail, or use it as the centerpiece of a beaded necklace. A pair makes striking statement earrings. It is an affordable way to work with ametrine, and it makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves purple stones.

Each bead is natural, so color zoning, size, thickness and inclusions vary; the photos show the range. Quartz is hard and durable, so the bead holds up to everyday wear. To keep the colors bright, store it away from strong sunlight when you are not wearing it.

About Ametrine

Ametrine is quartz with zones of purple and yellow-orange in one crystal, with a Mohs hardness of 7. Nearly all natural ametrine comes from the Anahi mine in Bolivia, and much of the ametrine on the market is created by heating or irradiating amethyst.

Stone Meaning: Ametrine is traditionally associated with balance, combining the calm of amethyst with the optimism of citrine.
